Several days before the Salt Lake City crash I first told Edith about the mess I was trying to expose. The Denver safety grievance hearing had ended, and I was in California purchasing supplies for my apartment projects, while waiting for the FAA Administrator's assistant, William Jennings, to issue his final report. Edith was a public spirited person who had the backbone to try and do something about government corruption.
After I returned to Denver to await the outcome of the safety hearing. Edith started calling newspapers, radio stations, and members of Congress, generating considerable interest, making her a threat to those implicated in the scandal. She came to the attention of people who wanted her stopped.
THE MAGAZINE IMPERSONATORS
A person identifying himself as Ed Keating, editor of Ramparts magazine, telephoned Edith at her home, requesting a meeting to discuss what I had uncovered and about my exposure activities. He supposedly wanted to write a magazine article about these activities. Ramparts had been exposing CIA activities at that time, including the CIA's spying on college students. Both of us sought publicity for the scandal from any source, and welcomed their attention.
The next day a woman representing herself as Mr. Keating's secretary phoned Edith advising her that Keating was entering the hospital for an ulcer checkup, asking if Edith would meet with Keating's assistant, Dave Russo. That evening Edith received a call from the person identifying himself as...
