Amid all the wild stories one can pick up out there in cyberspace, there is also abundant documentation of the big media's own role in a CIA-drug cover-up that has been going on for several decades. For almost a year the Internet has kept alive the series of stories by Gary Webb in the San Jose Mercury-News, alleging that a California drug ring supplied the cocaine for crack in Los Angeles black neighborhoods, and simultaneously channeled drug profits to the CIA-managed Contra Army in Central America. If you read the May 13 New York Times, it appeared that after nine months of controversy, the story published last August by Gary Webb in the San Jose Mercury News had finally been laid to rest. "Expose on Crack Was Flawed, Paper Says," read the dismissive headline. For a confused public, all this may have seemed like the last word. For those who had been following closely, Jerry Ceppos column of apology, and the Times one-sided oversimplification of it, were only further evidence of a whitewashing that does not stand up under scrutiny. The cover-up suggests just how frightened the establishment is of the truth -- that U.S. law enforcement was subverted when it came to major drug-traffickers who were also Contra supporters, and the CIA, allied with the worlds biggest traffickers, has contributed to the increased flow of drugs into this country. by Peter Dale Scott(posted 9/5/97) |
"OPERATION GHETTO STORM"The Rise in Paramilitary Policingby Peter CassidyThey terrorize whole neighborhoods, recklessly pointing their guns at the heads of children as young as 3 years old. They have been known to target African Americans for "special treatment". In several incidents, they have killed people for no apparent reason. Their exuberance sometimes gets the better of them, and they have been known to inadvertently shoot each other during their frenzied attacks. Who are they? A new band of Skinheads? No, "they" are the fastest-growing sector of our "war on drugs" and they are also our greatest immediate threat to civil peace and civil rights. A scientific study now begs the question: "Do we really need all these paramilitary units in our neighborhoods?" (posted 12/3/97) |
JFK ASSASSINATION
SPECIAL REPORT:The Second Assassination of JFKBy James DiEugenioFor those who benefited from the JFK Assassination, and participated in the cover-up (if not the plot), killing JFK was not enough. It was and is necessary for them to smother any legacy that might linger. Assassination is futile is a man's ideas live on through others. Over the past 34 years, there has been a stream of stories emanating from the mass media designed to destroy the Kennedy Legacy. Whenever some event transpires that raises the importance of the Kennedy Administration to a large number of people, the stream becomes a torrent. Many former supporters have been taken in by these stories. The trouble is, the great majority of these stories are demonstrably false, and the few with any merit are grotesquely distorted to suit the agenda of the authors who churn out this rubbish, and the financiers who pay for it. In this massive two-part exposé of this campaign of disinformation (from pre-assassination to the current crop of books), James DiEugenio sheds much-needed light, not only on Kennedy, but on the perpetrators of this "Second Assassination".
